Our First Six Weeks of Parenthood

Greetings to all! It has been a very eventful first six weeks of parenthood. When we last posted Makenna was just a day old on Saturday July 4. We were released Sunday afternoon after Makenna's bilirubin was tested, which was found to be high. When we arrived at home a set of billi lights were waiting for us to setup to begin the long process of getting her levels under control. She spent the first week of her life, which was very hard for Mommy and Daddy. They first started us out with a billi-bed and blanket. After a few days, her levels kept rising and they took the bed and gave us a suitcase that had billi lights that was supposed to work better. Her levels peaked at 18 and then fell to 13 after a couple of days. We took Makenna off the lights and levels started to climb again which we were assured was normal. Sure enough they fell to normal levels and the doctor said we were in the clear. As you can see she got sick of the lights after a while, and started to get a little attitude! (Whittaker Sign)

After she was cleared by the doctor, we packed up and headed to the cabin to get away from the heat and spend some time alone as a family for the first time. We didn't get a whole lot accomplished, just a lot of relaxing and trying to get into a routine with Makenna. Daddy's favorite activity was napping with his little lady. We spent 11 days at the cabin total, including the 24th of July holiday when the Whittaker's came up with our Aunt Marni and Cousin Shiloh. We enjoyed the holiday weekend and the help from the family. We spent a lot of time going through clothes trying to find some that fit her. We had a lot of clothes that were 0-3 months, but were all to big. The only size that she fits in right now is newborn. Mommy had lots of fun dressing her up and trying them on. Aunt Tristy had bought her a special 24 of July outfit, but it was too big so we had to put this bib on her since it was the most patriotic piece of clothing that would fit her. Shiloh had brought her little puppy Kado, and he fell in love with Makenna. He would not leave her alone, he had to watch over her, kiss her and became quite concerned when she would cry. Makenna wasn't quite sure what to think about his kisses though. On the other hand, Beagsley, Lance and Heidi's dog, doesn't really have any interest in the babies, either Makenna or his little sister Maggie. They take attention away from him and that bothers him. He sniffs every once in a while, but mainly keeps to himself.

We finally came home on Sunday the 26 and were happy to finally start creating a daily routine at home. For Jason's birthday, we celebrated at home and then went to the Texas Roadhouse for dinner. Later that week, we had a group of our friends come over to the house to celebrate Jason's 26th birthday, and to meet our little girl. Jason had to go back to work on August 3, which was very hard to do after having an entire month off of work. But, it's worth it to provide for his girls and keep Momma at home with baby. So now we are just enjoying being parents and our daughter is very easy to care for and laid back, as you can see. We are going to try harder to blog more often, but it has been difficult to find time when your exhausted and always busy. Thanks again for checking in on our little family. Until next time...Bye-Bye.

The Pigeon Has Landed!!!

Greetings to all! We are very proud to introduce, Makenna Marie Whittaker! She made her way into our lives yesterday, July 3, 2009 at around 6:30 p.m. After about 2.5 hours of pushing she felt it was time to meet her Mommy and Daddy. She is 6lbs 13oz, and 18.5 in long, with lots of hair. The color has yet to be determined, although. It appeared to be black, but after a bath it looks more brunette with blonde highlights. She very beautiful and loves to hear the sound of her Daddy's voice. We are all pretty tired, so rather than continue to blog I'll get to the Important stuff...THE PICTURES!
Here is some video of when they were cleaning her up!

She's Almost Here!!

This weekend is the Fourth of July, and Jason's family was going to the cabin for the festivities that ensue in Mt. Pleasant. With us being 3 weeks away from our due date we were a little hesitant of getting very far from the hospital. But with Jason having Friday off for the holiday, Thursday night we decided we would spend 2 nights at the cabin and then come back to town to BBQ with Alannah's family Saturday afternoon. So yesterday we packed up and headed to the cabin! We were just getting settled in and watching a movie until the rest of the family arrived, when Alannah started having really strong contractions like never before. Our doctor took us of medication that was controlling her Braxton-Hicks on Friday the 26th of June, and told us when she decides to come, we'll let her. So needless to say these new, never before experienced contractions were quite a surprise. So Jason packed everything back up into the car, along with Alannah and we headed to town. We passed Lance, Heidi and Maggie as they were coming into the Association Property, and minutes later Kenna, Sand, and Grandma Farnworth on the highway.
We arrived at the hospital around 9:00 p.m. only to find out Alannah was dilated to 1.5cm which was the same on Monday at our baby doc appointment. So they said they would observe us for an hour and check again. Our doctor, Dr. Anderson happened to be at the hospital with another delivery, and stopped by to check in. He checked Alannah again to find we were dilated to 2cm. He informed us if in another couple of hours if we had progressed, he was admitting us. Sure enough around 1:00 a.m. they admitted us, and started Alannah's epidural and Oxytocin drip to help with dilation.
After little to no sleep, Alannah was checked this morning at 5:00 a.m. with no progress. Around 8:00 a.m. Dr. Anderson stopped by again and found Alannah to be 3cm, and decided it was time to break her water!!! So now we are patiently waiting, and are expecting to have our little girl today!! Stay tuned and Jason will post again and hopefully have some pictures up! Take care!

Let's Catch Up!

Hello Everyone! It has been awhile since our last blog, and a lot has happened. First, we finished moving in to our new home in Springville. Echo's family came out from Wisconsin and stayed with us for a little over a week. While here they blessed Audrey, and spent long needed time with our family. Audrey is an adorable girl with wild hair and her Uncle Jason is smitten with her. Nolan is getting bigger and bigger by the day, and is learning more and more by the minute. He is a very smart little guy and very inquisitive, always asking "What's that?" We were very happy to have them. Echo was a godsend. Since Alannah had to quit her job and go on modified bed rest, Echo was a great help around the house. I don't know how she does it. It's har enough taking care of a baby, but a toddler, a husband, a brother and an expectant mother! WOW! We appreciated everything she did for us and miss them very much.

Our little miss personality, Maggie, is doing very well. We're told the nights are getting easier, and we have begun to see her eyes more and more. The first couple of weeks, she was quite the tease with her little eyes. It could be that she realizes how strange our family is or she is just a flirt. But occasionally she would peak through her eyelids to see if it was safe to come out, then quickly close them when she realized the craziness of all of us. She is a little bundle of personality. We recomend taking a look over to Lance and Heidi's blog to see all of the great and funny pictures of Maggie.

Did you say HOMEOWNER?!

Hello everyone! Sorry it has been awhile, but we have been kind of busy. First off, we have been continuing to prepare to the arrival of our little girl Makenna! Our due date continues to be the 24th of July, and it is getting closer. Alannah's belly is continuing to grow, and also beginning to contract on a daily basis. (Don't worry they are just Braxton Hicks) (HOPEFULLY) We have had some recent requests from followers who want to see a recent shot of Alannah's belly. We have been trying to take as many as we can, or as many as Alannah will allow Jason to take, and here is one from today. She is very beautiful. If anyone sees or talks to her please do Jason a favor and tell her how pretty she is. Alannah is getting tired of the insensitive jerks who think it's nice to tell her she looks like she's having twins. I have to assure them that the doctor sees only one baby, and that he says she is the normal size for how far along she is. BUTTHEADS! Unfortunately it is getting harder for her to see her feet. Jason has become a pro at tying another person's shoes.

Dateline Wisconsin...Audrey Echo Merrell was born on April 30, 2009. She is a very healthy little girl, and according to Echo, Girls are easier than Boys...So far. They have been home almost 2 weeks now and things are going well. Nolan is a great helper and also thinks it's funny when Audrey makes use of her diaper. ;) Grandma Kenna arrived last Friday, and has been enjoying every minute of it. She is a great help, and a great playmate for Nolan. Also we would like to wish her a HAPPY BIRTHDAY today! We love her and appreciate all she does for our family. Grandma is scheduled to come home on Saturday the 16. I am sure she will be very sad to leave, however there is a great surprise waiting for her when she gets home.

Dateline Utah...Maggie Sophia Whittaker arrived into this world on Tuesday, May 12, at 1:57 AM. She was 8lbs-10oz. and measured 21 inches long. She is also a very beautiful girl, and she has her Daddy wrapped around her long little finger. As of today Heidi is still in the hospital with Maggie, and are scheduled to come home tomorrow, I believe. So Grandma Whittaker has another bundle of joy waiting for her when she arrives home.

In other news, Jason and Alannah bought a house on their third Anniversary, May 13, 2009. They will be living in Springville in their 4 Bedroom, 2 Bath, 2-Car Garage, and 1 Office home. We are extremely excited since it has been such a long and arduous process. Interestingly enough this house was one of the first homes we looked at, and at the time it was too much money. After looking for many months our Realtor called us and told us that the price had dropped. Feeling bold we offered $8,000 less than what they were asking and were turned down. We figured "Oh well" and kept looking. A week later they called us and told us they would take our offer and pay $4,500 in closing costs. It just goes to show that banks are in too deep with this current market, and people who have saved are at a great position to buy a home. We get our keys tomorrow and will begin the process of cleaning and also painting Makenna's room. Hopefully by next week or weekend we will start moving. So if any of you get bored, give us a call, we could use the help. :) I didn't want to upload to many photos, so once again I have decided to use my handy Flickr account to show a slide show.

Home from Wisconsin

Greetings Y'all! We are happy to be home from our great trip to Wisconsin. We had a terrific time and enjoyed spending it with Echo, Kenny, Nolan, and Baby Girl Merrell. Unfortunately we didn't arrive home until 2 a.m. this morning, due to a late plane in Denver. But we made it home all the same.

We flew into Milwaukee on Tuesday afternoon, and the weather was great. The rest of the days, the weather was not so kind to us. The wind is terrible. The temperature was not so bad, but the wind made it unbearable. That factor limited us on our activities. Living in Wisconsin as long as Echo has, you find lots of things to do when the weather is bad.

On Wednesday, Alannah, Jason, Echo, and Nolan went to the Betty Brinn Children's Museum, which is one of Echo and Nolan's frequented hangouts. It was really neat and educational place. They have different exhibits throughout that teach kids about many different activities in life. Nolan seemed to enjoy the Lawn Mower Ramp more than any of the other activities. Probably because Nolan has his own toy lawn mower that he rams into Echo's Vacuum while she's trying to clean. Unfortunately Nolan thought he could ram his lawn mower into the other kids' lawnmowers. He got a lot of blank stares from the other kids. :)

On Thursday, we had a very busy day. We went to the Milwaukee County Zoo in the morning, while Kenny was at school. It was very cold outside, so we focused our attention on the animals that could be viewed from indoors. We had lots of fun despite the weather. Wisconsin is a nice place, but in the winter you are very limited on your activities. Echo has become quite the pro at finding fun things to do while staying warm. After the zoo, Echo took us home were Alannah and Jason watched Nolan while she met Kenny at the Doctor to check on her baby's progress. We enjoyed hanging out with Nolan, although he had worn the both of us out. Jason tried to get Nolan to lie down for an afternoon nap, but was unsuccessful. Nolan however, was successful in getting Uncle Jason to read him every book in his collection.

On Friday the five of us went into Miller Valley to take the Miller Brewery tour. It was very cool to see how beer gets made from the ingredients, sent to ferment, then bottled and packaged ready for shipping. Unfortunately the entire factory smells like hot beer and hops. The smell of beer has never bothered me before, but taking a hour long tour breathing in fumes like the breath of a drunken Irishmen can make you a little queasy. Just before the end of the tour, they take you into what used to be the Miller beer caves. They are caves that were dug hundreds of feet into the hillside and then packed with barrels of beer in 1849. Then every winter, tons and tons of ice were harvested from Lake Michigan and then used to line the walls of the caves to keep the beer ice cold. Pretty ingenious if you ask me.

On Saturday Echo and Alannah stayed home for a baby shower that Echo's friends were throwing her. While they ate and opened presents, Jason, Kenny, and Nolan went to the Zoo with Kenny's Classmate and his infant daughter. Luckily the weather was very pleasant and the boys got to see all of the zoo this trip. We spent a lot of time in Nolan's favorite exhibit were all of the apes and monkeys are kept. Nolan likes all of monkeys except for the Mandrill. He is the one with the pretty colors on his face. But, Nolan doesn't like him causes he looks scary. Watch the movie and see if you can tell why.
What is with his "shifty" eyes? All he does is sit in his cage an look back and forth all day. Both days we went to the zoo he was sitting in the same spot and all he did was shift his eyes back and forth. I think I know why Nolan doesn't like him. ;)

Sunday morning we went to church and then went on a ride through then neighborhood and took lots of pictures of the houses. They are all amazing looking. Coming from Utah, all of the architecture around is relatively young. Out in Wisconsin the houses are all old, restored homes from the 1800s and newer. We went home to have Cafe Rio that Echo had cooking in the crockpot. After dinner we all took a ride to Big Muskego Lake. Its a small lake about 30 minutes away from Echo and Kenny's house. We played on the swings and slid down the slides before throwing rocks off the dock into lake. It was a beautiful park and a beautiful day.

Monday we woke up and went to the Wisconsin Domes. They are giant biodomes that house three different ecosysems. One is tropical, full of tropical plants and birds. It is very warm and very humid. Another is arid, much like Arizona. Cacti, rocks, and sand. The third is reserved for different exhibits. Unfortunatley the day we went, they were removing the Lego exhibit which Echo told us was very cool to see. Nolan knew exactly what used to be in that dome, he kept saying "Choo, choo" mimicking the Lego Train that was housed in that dome for months. We still got to look inside and watch the skid loaders and forklifts at work.

Alannah and Jason had packed up their bags early Monday morning so we spent the rest of the day just hanging out and enjoying one anothers company. Before we left we all went to Oscars, a frozen custard fast food joint. The frozen custard was amazing, not to mention the fried white cheese curds that Jason purchased. We got to the airport around 7:00 and said our emotional goodbyes. Sadly, we believe that Nolan finally understood that the airport can be good sometimes and can be sad sometimes. He hung his head, and cried as we walked to check our bags in.

We had lots of fun, and enjoyed spending time with Jason's Sister and her great family. We are excited for Echo to have her baby, soon maybe, and are even more excited for June when the Merrells will be coming out to Utah to visit and bless Baby Girl Merrell. Take a minute if you can and look at the slide show Jason set up on the right column and watch some of the fun we had. Thanks for reading and hope to hear from you all soon.

It's a GIRL!!!!

Hello again everyone! We are proud to finally reveal the gender of our baby. It's a GIRL!! We went to UVRMC today for our 20 week check up, and during the exam, we got to see the baby's gender. It took some doing, due to the fact that our little girl is very modest. She kept her little legs crossed which made it very hard to see her girly parts. But after some determination, the tech was able to get us a few revealing pictures. You might need to click on the picture to get a better view, but we can assure you it's a hot dog bun and not a hot dog.

The ultrasound tech was thorough and did a great job checking to make sure the baby was healthy. We had some concerns due to the fact Alannah was on a couple of medications during the first month of our pregnancy. The doctors said that there had been some cases of babies born with cleft palettes, and with holes in their spines. Unfortunately the doctor told us about these dangers after we got pregnant and continued the use of the medications. The tech checked the baby from head to toe and told us the baby is perfectly healthy. We got a great look at her face, and her lip has fully formed. And her spine was beautiful and not a hole in sight. So fortunately Alannah got off the medication before it did any damage to our baby girl.

Now that we have discovered the gender of our baby girl, we can start buying clothes and preparing for her big arrival. We have also been thinking about names for our new bundle of joy and we think we have found a name that we both agree on. Makenna Marie Whittaker. Makenna from Jason's mom Kenna, and Marie, from Alannah and Dawna's middle name, which comes from Alannah's Grandma Mary. So far everyone we have told loves the name as much as we do. So she will share her name with with a few of the great women in our lives.

We decided to wait til this evening to inform our families of our baby girl. We met Jason's parents Paul and Kenna at Grandma Farnworth's house to show them the movie and reveal the good news. Unfortunately Alannah had a hard time keeping this secret until then, and accidentally told Paul at KFC while we were getting a bite to eat. Dad was surprised that we now have 3 granddaughters on their way in the Whittaker family, but is very happy to be a Papa. He did a great job acting surprised when we told the grandmas. Yeah Right. Afterwards we went to Alannah's sister Tristy's house for our niece Kennedy's birthday party where we told Alannah's family. Kennedy made it a point to tell us that is just what she wanted. I guess we could have gotten away without buying her that Barbie. :)

Well, another exciting day in pregnant-hood. Thanks to all of you for checking in on us, and for being our friends and family. We love you all and will post again soon.

P.S. You might have noticed our Baby Countdown has changed to a Trip Countdown. That's because we are going to see Echo, Kenny and Nolan in 2 weeks out in Wisconsin. We are very excited and can't hardly wait.

Cooper's Sleepover

On Friday afternoon, Jason and Alannah went to Grandma and Grandpa Wing's house to pick up Cooper for his turn spending time with us. We took Cooper shopping, and after about the second store, he fell asleep with Jason holding him. We continued our shopping quest for new sheets, in an attempt to kill time before Alannah had to go to a work meeting. Cooper and Jason dropped Alannah off and went to run some errands for Uncle Jason. After stopping at McDonald's for a Chicken nugget meal for Cooper, we returned to pick up Aunt Alannah from work. We went home and watched Peter Pan while we ate dinner. Cooper also enjoyed watching the ultrasound of his new baby cousin. After reading a few books, it was straight to bed.

Saturday morning began with Capn Crunch for breakfast and Spongebob Squarepants on the TV. We all got ready for the day and we were off again to do some shopping for maternity clothes for Alannah. After little success we went to Walmart to meet Tristy and get Jason and Cooper haircuts. Cooper was hesitant at first, but after a bribe of a new motorcycle was made, was well behaved through his entire haircut. He is such a handsome boy. Afterwards, we did a little grocery shopping, and Tristy took him to drop him off at his dad's.

Alannah is still growing, which is a growing concern with our upcoming trip to Wisconsin in March. Fortunately it is starting to warm up here in Utah, so Alannah is wearing some of her lighter clothes that still fit. Unfortunately when we visit Echo, Kenny and Nolan, Wisconsin will still be cold. Thus the reason for our frantic search for winter maternity clothes, before they all disappear with the upcoming season change. We have been finding lots of winter clothes on clearance sales which is nice since it is hard to justify buying maternity clothes for a season Alannah is done with.

We are currently in our Eighteenth week of our pregnancy and are beginning to become increasingly impatient with anonymity of our baby's gender. We have a Doctors Appointment tomorrow, unfortunately not to find out the gender. But, having already worn out our patience, we are going to try to convince the doctor to perform an ultrasound and take a peek. So, get your votes in while you can, because if we have our way tomorrow, we will know by the end of the afternoon. It would be nice to start calling the baby by name, so the kids can quit referring to Alannah's belly as "Baby Cousin." Cooper has made it a habit of lifting up Alannah's shirt and kissing her belly and saying "Wuv you baby tousin," then pulling her shirt back down and going about his business.

Well once again, thanks to all of you for continuing to tune in occasionally, and leave your comments. Hopefully the next post will be the announcement of our baby's gender. Love you all, and take care.

Alannah's Belly is Growing

Alannah has finally allowed Jason to begin photographing her growing belly. Unfortunately we waited until she was 15 weeks before we started. :( So now Jason is going to try to make sure we get a picture of her belly every week. First is Alannah at 15 weeks.

Even at 15 weeks her belly is already poking out. It blows our minds that our baby is growing so fast, that Alannah's belly is reflecting that growth. She had to buy some maternity pants the other day, not because she can't fit into her pants, but because wearing a belt hurts her belly. Unfortunately if she doesn't wear a belt she suffers from plumber-itus (showing off of the crack). So her new maternity pants not only cover her crack, but they are more comfortable and are cute to boot. Luckily, she has many shirts, which Jason refers to as "preggy shirts," in her wardrobe. She has always like the style of shirt, even though Jason always jokes that they are for pregnant chicks, now they are coming in quite handy.
We are currently 2 week away from finding out the gender of our baby. We have an appointment on March 2, 2009 at Utah Valley to have major tests done on the baby, and find out the gender. We are very excited, and can't wait to find out. Alannah thinks it is a girl. Jason has always thought they would have a girl first, but now that we are pregnant he thinks it is a boy. Either way, we are just hoping the baby is healthy. If you get a chance, vote on the poll to the right of the blog, and we will check it daily to see what everyone thinks.

Last week when we had Kennedy over, we took some more pictures of Alannah's belly at 16 weeks. The shirt she is wearing is actually a maternity shirt and not one of her "preggy shirts." Isn't she beautiful? Jason thinks so, and thats all that matters.

So, continue to read, and vote in our poll if you get a chance. We will let everyone know as soon as we know. Love you all, and talk to you soon.

Jason's Triumph Over the Stroller

We bought our stroller/car seat combo today. Lance & Heidi found it for us at Costco for a really good deal. When we got home, we had to make the decision to leave it in the box or attempt putting it together. Of course Jason was not going to let a stroller intimidate him. He went straight to work piecing it together, with minimal help from the instruction manual. ;) Needless to say, after about an hour of assembly/reassembly he hailed victorious over the puny stroller.

Kenny Sue's Sleep Over

Hello again everyone!

This weekend Kennedy had her turn to spend some alone time with her Aunt Alannah and her Uncle Jason. We picked her up from Grandma and Grandpa Wing's house on Friday afternoon. We went shopping in Spanish Fork at Shopko to try to find Aunt Alannah some maternity clothes since her belly is growing by the day. After that we went to Walmart in Orem to find something for dinner. Kennedy was very good all day. She helped us shop and pushed around the cart. She picked out a Totinos pizza for her dinner, while we had steak and chicken. :) Since the thought of anything beef makes Alannah puke. Before we left Walmart Kennedy picked out a movie for us to watch from Redbox. She chose Super Mario Brothers 3! Which turned out better than Alannah expected.

We got home and cooked dinner and while Kennedy watched Oblio and the Land of the Point, which Kennedy says is her favorite movie. When dinner was ready, we watched the Mario Brothers and Kenny ate HALF of her pizza, and drank milk instead of sprite. Which is quite the feat in itself!

Aunt Alannah put Kennedy in the tub, and she was very good. She espescially enjoyed our shower head, that removes from the wall to rinse her hair. Kennedy played in the tub by herself for a while. Then she got dried off and Aunt Alannah put on one of Alannah's UVU shirts since she didn't want her PJs with feet on them. Aunt Alannah braided her hair, and she was ready for bed.

Afterwards we read 7 books with Kennedy. Her favorite was The Poky Little Puppy, which was Jason's favorite book when he was little. She read to us and counted the puppies and pointed out allof the colors.

Kennedy enjoyed reading, and was very well behaved throughout. Other than her extracaricular activity during the movie. ;) She fell asleep on the couch while watching Barnyard: The Original Party Animals.

The next morining she woke up EARLY, and crawled into bed with us. We slept for a little while longer, then got up and had breakfast. Aunt Alannah dressed Kenny, and Uncle Jason did her hair, which was messy after an hour of playing. Some of my best work really.

We watched some Bobby's World before taking her back to Spanish Fork to her Dad's house. We had a lot of fun, and she enjoyed rubbing Aunt Alannah's belly, while talking to her new cousin. Who, by the way, she thinks is a girl. Next week, we are going to try to take Cooper, so check back again. Thanks for stopping by!

We're Having a Baby!!

Hi Everyone!

First off we'd like to apologize for not posting in almost 2 years. A lot has happened since then. We are currently enjoying our third year of marriage and we are happier than ever. On December 1, 2008 we found out that our family would be expanding, along with Alannah's belly. We were six weeks Pregnant!

We kept this as a secret through the holidays, and finally told the family during Alannah's birthday parties. It was hard keeping the secret for that long, but it was worth it to see how happy everyone was. We are now 15 weeks along and our anxiously awaiting to find out the gender of our baby. We will find out on our niece, Kennedy's birthday, March 2. And strangely enough we are due on our nephew Cooper's birthday on July 24.

Our last ultrasound shows the baby at 12 weeks, and it is very healthy, an grown a lot since our first ultrasound at 6 weeks. We will work very hard to keep everyone posted on how things are coming along and we will be sure to post pictures as they come.

Love you all! The Whittaker Family.

Paigey's Sleepover

Hello again everyone! Since Alannah and Jason have been, and are going to continue to be busy with our pregnancy, we decided we are going to try to spend personal time with each of our nieces and nephews. So on Friday January 30, we had Paigey come and spend the night with us. We hung out, cleaned house a little, and played the Wii. Paiger loved to play the Wii fit, and she was very good at it. Check out the video of her skills.

She's definitely got game. We are going to continue trying to spend personal time with our kids. Next time Kennedy is going to come spend the night, and then Cooper. So stay tuned for more fun with the kids!
